OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Many Oklahomans who own a pet will be happy to know a few trends are emerging of popular dog names in metropolitan areas across the U.S.
Oklahoma is topping out with the following favorite pet names according to a recent study released by U.S. News & World Report :

A U.S. News & World Report analyzed a pet insurance database of dog names from around the country to find the most popular dog names in the 25 most populous U.S. cities.
According to U.S. News & World Report, some cities were more aligned with national naming trends, while pet owners in others often chose rather unique names.
Luna , the second most popular dog name in the U.S. overall – is one of the most popular names in Houston, Las Vegas, San Diego, El Paso, Seattle, and San Jose, according to U.S. News & World Report research.
Daisy, the fourth most popular dog name overall, can be found on the lists for Nashville, San Antonio, and San Diego. Dog owners in San Diego and San Francisco, meanwhile, often chose Charlie, the fifth most popular name in the U.S.
The three most popular names in San Diego – Daisy, Luna, and Charlie – are all among the five most popular dog names in the nation.
Bella, the most popular dog name in the U.S. overall, tops the list in only one of the cities we studied, Jacksonville. It’s the second most popular name in El Paso says, U.S. News & World Report.
Although dog names in the U.S. are also favorites in major cities, U.S. News & World Report confirmed dog owners in some metro areas often opt for more distinctive names with examples including Musubi and Toula (Boston), Miu and Zuko (Indianapolis), Suki (San Antonio), and Huddie (Seattle).

Food names
Dog owners in some cities may have been inspired by their favorite foods when naming their pets, with examples that include Cheddar and Figgy (Dallas), Mochi and Miso (Denver), and Cinnamon (Indianapolis).
Pop culture
Popular dog names in some cities may be influenced by pop culture. For instance, Kobe (Columbus) might be a nod to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, while Zuko (Indianapolis) could be in reference to the character from “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” showcasing an intersection of popular culture and pet naming trends.
Short names
Short and sweet dog names – only one or two syllables – are among the most popular in many of the cities in our report.
This includes Bo (Austin and Seattle), Jack (Philadelphia), and Gus (Phoenix) – some of the shortest names we found – as well as Yuma (Chicago), Josie (Dallas), and Koda (Los Angeles).
Human names
The most popular dog names in some cities sound a lot like human names. In addition to names like Bella and Charlie, a few examples include:
