SAN ANTONIO — With tens of thousands of strays in San Antonio, many local animal adoption organizations are filled up with pets needing homes. One organization is putting out the call for adopters, in a hurry!
Right now, San Antonio Pets Alive has over 800 cats and dogs in their care and take in about 30 animals every day. But two events they are holding hope to get many of those felines and canines into forever homes.
Especially kittens, since this kitten season was longer than normal.
Justine Grier, the SAPA Director of Community Engagement told us, “It was probably the milder weather and a lot of the rain we had this summer which resulted in more kittens. And we even have a lot of younger bottle babies actually coming in which usually doesn’t happen around this time.”
Through Sept. 10, SAPA is holding it’s ‘Clear the Shelters’ event.
“All adoption fees are currently way for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens,” Grier said. “And our goal is to clear all the shelters and clear all the kennels too, so that at the end of the event, we don’t have any animals in the kennels anymore and even our foster homes.”
If you don’t have the space to foster or adopt, SAPA is also in need of cat and dog food, as well as financial donations that you can do right through their website.
But if you do have room for a new furry friend, their first event will be at Petco Nacogdoches at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sept. 7.
Later that day, they’ll be holding another adoption event at the Petco by the Ingram Park Mall from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“Join us for the event to also empty those foster homes too,” Grier said. “And again, all adoption fees are waived so people can adopt for completely free to take an animal home that same day.”
