Satruday fire displaces Rochester family, claims dog’s life – Post Bulletin

ROCHESTER — A family was displaced and a dog was killed in a house fire in Rochester Saturday afternoon.

The Rochester Fire Department was called to the 4500 block of 21 1/2 Ave. NW after 1 p.m. Saturday for a report of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the building’s roof and windows. The people who live there were able to escape but told firefighters their dog was still in the house.

Firefighters were able to eventually make their way into the home to retrieve the dog. Rescuers performed life saving measures on the dog but were unable to revive the pet.

The home and most of the contents were heavily damaged by fire, smoke, and water, Rochester Fire Department reports.

The American Red Cross is assisting the people displaced by the fire, the Rochester Fire Department reported.
