CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – The “Party Like Gatsby Dinner and Comedy Show” to benefit Southeast Missouri Pets is happening on Saturday, October 26 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for cocktail hour. Dinner by T-Ravs will be served at 6:30 p.m.
The menu includes chicken parmesan, beef brisket, marsala, roasted potatoes, fire-roasted vegetables, green beans, rolls, and a dessert bar complete with a chocolate fountain.
At 8 p.m., entertainment by Comedy to the Rescue starts. Comedian Clay Foley heads the organization, partnering with animal shelters around the country to bring the laughs and raise money.
Organizers say the evening includes a silent auction and music by Joy Brooker.
Attendees can also take part in an optional Gatsby-themed costume contest and games involving 1920s slang and pricing.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online or over the phone by calling 573-334-5837. Proceeds support SEMO Pets.
The nonprofit’s efforts help animals like Lydia, a two-month-old puppy who survived canine parvovirus.
A full list of adoptable dogs and cats can be found here.
Even for households that can’t take on a new pet at the current time, there are still ways to help through volunteering.
“We’re always looking for new volunteers to help lend us a paw for dogs like Lydia,” Mariah Barker said. “Anything from kennel cleaning to dog and cat socialization, which is super fun…and [you] really, really feel like you’re playing a great part in the community and giving back.”
The next SEMO Pets volunteer orientation will be in November.
