At 18 years old, Figgy the Poodle should have been enjoying soft beds, warm meals, and gentle cuddles. Instead, he was dropped off at a shelter like an old piece of furniture. His owners said he had arthritis. The wife didn’t like him. And worst of all, they called him “stupid.”
He was blind. He was tiny. He was confused. And after giving his whole life to a family, he had no idea why everything he knew had vanished.
Quick Recap of Hope and Heart:
-
A senior dog abandoned at 18
-
A rescue that refused to let him die in a shelter
-
A hospice mom who gave him love, comfort, and a home
-
A final chapter full of warmth, joy, and dignity
Thankfully, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue heard about Figgy and jumped into action. They knew no dog deserved to spend their final days in a cold, lonely kennel, especially not one who had already lived nearly two decades. So they rescued him and called in someone special.
Her name is Eileen, and she’s an experienced hospice foster who knows exactly how to care for dogs like Figgy. The moment she met him, she knew he was perfect. It was written all over her smile, and Figgy felt it too. He relaxed in her arms as if he had been waiting his whole life to be truly seen. No longer just an unwanted senior with arthritis, Figgy was now something so much more — he was family.

He left the shelter behind and headed straight into Eileen’s warm, loving home. And just in time for the holidays, he was greeted with a soft blanket, nourishing food, and the kind of affection he had always deserved. This sweet little dog, who had been tossed aside so cruelly, would now spend the rest of his life wrapped in real love, comfort, and dignity.
These are the moments that matter most. Not the number of years we get, but how those years feel. Figgy may be in his twilight, but with Eileen by his side, he’s living out his golden days in peace, joy, and the safety of knowing he’s finally home.
Every Dog Deserves This!
Muttville and people like Eileen prove that senior dogs are not lost causes. They are still worthy. Still lovable. Still capable of joy. Figgy’s story reminds us that love has no age limit and that every dog deserves to feel cherished, right up to the very end.
