HALF of Gen Z would rather spend Valentine’s Day with their pet than their partner, a poll found.

And a quarter of adults under 27 say their animals show them more affection than their significant other.

One in ten in the age group also prefer their pet’s manners.

The Burns Pet Nutrition survey found almost half of Gen Zs buy a Valentine’s gift for their pet, with one in ten spending between £50 and £100.

In contrast, nearly one quarter of Gen X (aged 45 to 60) get presents for their furry friends, while a mere 12 per cent of Boomers do the same.

Pet nutritionist and ­veterinary advisor Emily Boardman said: “It’s so nice to see how much joy pets bring their owners.

“Whether it’s a cosy night in, a walk, or a special treat, pets are stealing the spotlight this Valentine’s Day!”

Separately, a survey by the Kennel Club ahead of Crufts next month found almost half of all dog owners would prefer to spend time with their pet than on a date.

The Kennel Club said: “For many, there is no love greater than the one they share with their dog.”
