SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Saturday was the day for the pets, pets on parade that is! Celebrating 22 years of a fundraiser benefiting the Siouxland Humane Society, and everything they do to support our four-legged friends.
At Riverside Park, the festivities kicked off with a mile long pledged walk this morning. Many people there brought their companions for the cause. After the walk, participants could choose from the wide arrangement of entertainment such as vendors, food trucks, and a kid zone.
The Siouxland Humane Society also provided an adoption center to give some animals a chance for a new home.
“100% of the money raised and from sponsorships and everything goes straight to the shelter, we don’t get any city, state, or government funding so fundraisers like this and sponsorships from the community and stuff is really what lets us do all the amazing things that we do at the shelter,” said Maddy Nettleton, Director of Development for Siouxland Humane Society.
The event was especially dog friendly, with the pet zone providing paw print stamps, lick mats, pup cups, and peanut butter. Nettleton said the event is friendly to a variety of other pets like cats, bunnies, lizards and even chickens.
“You see literally everything, basset hounds, we have at the shelter a Mexican hairless dog which is something you don’t see very often, English bulldogs, big wirehaired pointers, just everything, I love all the barking and all the cases, that’s my favorite,” said Nettleton.
All the money raised from Saturday’s event will go directly to the Siouxland Humane Society. Every person who raised over $300 was also entered into a raffle to win a prize at end of the day.
