Skunk missing from Great Cornard found after nine-day search

Ace the skunk disappeared from his home in Applegate Mews in Great Cornard, near Sudbury, on Thursday, July 11. 

Early last week his owner, Vik Ellis, said she had searched the whole area, including Oxford Close where he was seen not long after he escaped, but were unable to find him.

But on Saturday, nine days after he disappeared, Ms Ellis, who works at the Maldon Grey pub in Cats Lane, was called by a fellow Great Cornard resident with some good news.

“I had just finished work Saturday at around 9pm and my phone rang,” she said.

“It was a lady saying her mum found him in her garden and had caught him in a cat carrier, so me and my son went to collect him.

“We were very excited – me and my son were running round the pub telling everyone.” 

She said the home Ace was found at was around halfway between Applegate Mews and Oxford Close, where he had been sighted.

She added: “He seems fine, not at all bothered, and seems like he has found plenty to eat.” 

Last week Ms Ellis said she and her friend took Ace the skunk on as a rescue, along with an iguana, from a couple who were no longer able to look after them.

Ace now lives with her and and her son full-time. 

Ms Ellis said she is now working to ‘Ace-proof' her garden so he can't escape for another big adventure anytime soon.
