The Smith County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the killing of two dogs found shot in a wooded area with their eyes missing.
Animal control responded after a Smith County resident discovered two dead dogs near the intersection of CR 455 and CR 452 in the northern part of the county and contacted authorities. Sgt. Larry Christian, Public Information Officer for the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, said the dogs had been there for some time and that deputies believe other animals were responsible for their missing eyes.
In an effort to find the person responsible, Nicholas Pet Haven (NPH) is offering a $1,000 reward.
“I hope the reward money will help us find the person that did this,” said Cindy Nash of NPH. “I hope somebody will turn this person in so that they can be held accountable for what they've done. They need to go to jail.”
Nash initially offered $500 as a reward on their social media, but Skip Ogle of Ogle Construction reached out and contributed an additional amount.
“He is a supporter of Nicholas Pet Haven, and he saw the post and he sent us a message and said, ‘I will add 500 to that reward, so we'll make it an even thousand,’” Nash said.
Nash expressed frustration over the heinous act, seeking answers.
“All I wanna know is why?” Nash added. “Why would somebody do that?”
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating this case. Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at 903-590-2661.
