Dog owners will be fined £100 if they do not pick up their pet’s poo after new rules were approved last night.

South Holland District Council’s cabinet last night (Tuesday, November 12) agreed to implement a new district-wide Public Spaces Protection Order to target irresponsible dog owners and it will come into force next year.

Under the new rules dog owners who fail to clean up after their dogs or found not to carry a ‘means to do so’ will be fined.
The new order also prevents dogs from entering enclosed children’s play areas.

Coun Anthony Casson, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection at South Holland District Council, said: “We recognise that most people act responsibly when exercising their dogs, however complaints about dog fouling, and the positive response from the public consultation, support us taking action.

“This is an important step to tackle environmental issues like dog fouling, and it’s something that is working well in Boston and East Lindsey.”
