Pune Police have booked a 34-year-old man for allegedly beating up and biting off a woman’s finger in a quarrel over a dog. As per the police, the accused Manjeet Thakur owns a pet dog and the woman complainant suspected that the dog had passed on an eye infection to her son. She complained about this to the dog owner.
Dattatraya Kshirsagar (32), a resident of Praniti Park, Awhalwadi off Pune-Ahmednagar Road, has registered a complaint against accused Thakur at Lonikand police station. Thakur has been booked under 115, 118 (1), 117, 352, 351(2), 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The incident happened at 4 pm on Thursday.
“As per the complaint received, the Thakur family’s pet dog had an eye infection and the complainant Kshirsagar suspected that the dog gave the infection to his elder son. He met Thakur over the issue, and asked him not to let the dog lose as he was afraid that his four month old infant son would also get the infection. This led to the quarrel,” said police constable Pratap Devkar of Lonikand police station.
As per the complaint, that day at about 4 pm, the accused Manjeet Thakur and two other members of his family came to the Kshirsagar’s house across the street and beat up his mother and wife.
“During the fight, the accused assaulted Kshirsagar’s mother Latabai with a stick and also bit her index finger and severed it. We are investigating the complaints registered against Thakur and two women—Sangita Singh and Puja Singh—who allegedly assaulted Kshirsagar’s wife,” said Devkar.
The two families live in bungalows opposite each other in Praniti Park, Awhalwadi off Pune-Ahmednagar Road.
