Standard Process launches mushroom-based pet supplement

PALMYRA, WIS. — Standard Process, a whole food-based nutritional supplement company, introduced a new addition to its Veterinary Formulas™ pet supplement line — Mushroom Complex — on July 11. Mushroom Complex is a science-backed, powdered supplement targeting pets’ immune and digestive health, as well as cellular repair and overall long-term wellness.

Mushroom Complex is formulated with a variety of fruiting mushroom bodies, including Turkey Tail, Red Reishi and Lion’s Mane, to provide beta glucans, which have been shown to support immune health.

The supplement also contains an ancient oat strain, Avena strigose, sourced from a Standard Process certified organic farm. According to the company, this particular oat strain differs from conventional oats as they contain higher levels of protein and avenanthramides, which can provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Additionally, Mushroom Complex contains bovine colostrum to support the gastrointestinal tract.

“Today’s pet owners are increasingly focused on their animal’s wellness and overall health,” said Katrina Verdeur, product development manager — Pet for Standard Process. “There are different approaches to supporting a healthy pet, and different components can support multiple body systems.

“Mushroom Complex provides a guaranteed number of beta glucans coming from a blend of mushroom extracts,” Verdeur added. “The mushroom extracts are derived from the fruiting body of the fungi and extracted with hot water to pre-digest and concentrate the active components of mushrooms.”

Standard Process’ Mushroom Complex supplement is designed for cats and dogs and is available via the company’s e-commerce website.
