One morning in Atlanta, Georgia, Zoë stepped onto her porch expecting just another day. Instead, she found an unexpected sight—curled up on a bench was a frail, shivering dog. The stray, visibly malnourished and weak, had tucked himself into a tight ball, attempting to disappear into the background. His tail was wrapped over his face as if trying to shield himself from the world. Shocked and heartbroken by the state of the dog, Zoë knew she had to act quickly. Unsure of where he had come from or how long he had been out there, she decided to help.
Wanting to spread awareness, she recorded a short clip and posted it on TikTok. The video, which quickly gained traction, showed the full extent of the dog’s distress. “Woke up to a stray dog sleeping on our front porch,” she captioned the footage.
Viewers were immediately moved by the heartbreaking scene. One commenter wrote, “Covering his face with paw AND tail. I wish him years of happiness.” Another added, “So sad, he’s trying to make himself invisible. He just wanted a safe spot to sleep. Ugh, I wish I could save them all.”
Hoping to locate his owner, Zoë checked for a microchip, but despite the presence of a collar, there was no identifying information. It became evident that he had likely been abandoned. With nowhere to place him, she searched desperately for a solution.
A neighbor soon stepped in and offered to provide emergency foster care for the dog, whom they later named Capital. Given that Zoë already had two reactive dogs and a one-year-old child at home, she was immensely grateful for the help. Unfortunately, the situation took an unexpected turn.
When Zoë followed up the next day to check on Capital’s progress, she was met with disappointing news. The neighbor had surrendered him to a high-intake, high-euthanasia shelter in Atlanta, citing his reactiveness to their other pets as the reason.
“He was taken to the Fulton County Animal Shelter by the person who signed up to foster him, without telling me,” she shared. Determined not to give up on him, Zoë has since been tirelessly advocating for Capital, using her TikTok platform to find him a suitable home. Though unable to adopt him herself, she continues to share his story in the hope that the right adopter will come forward.
On a positive note, a generous donor has already covered his adoption fees, removing a major barrier to his placement. “He is in Atlanta and needs a home if anyone is able to help. His adoption fees have been paid,” Zoë wrote in an update.
Despite the trauma he has endured, Capital remains friendly and shows no aggression toward people. Now, he just needs someone willing to provide the stability and kindness he has long been denied.
