LUCKNOW: A 42-year-old woman was injured after being attacked by a French bulldog in Sushant Golf City’s Celebrity Greens apartment in Gomtinagar Extension. The incident took place on September 8, but the complaint was given to the Golf City police station on Monday night.
Five such incidents have been reported this year, including attacks on a two-year-old child, a girl student and a 63-year-old man, and. Authorities urge pet owners to be responsible and ensure their dogs are properly trained and vaccinated.
The victim, Rinki Singh, said that she had gone to her friend’s house in another block of the society when she mistakenly rang the doorbell of a wrong flat. The dog, which was inside the flat, broke free and attacked her, biting her on the calf muscle. She was lucky to escape with only bruises.
She rushed to the hospital, where she received initial treatment and got vaccinated for rabies. “Then, I returned to the flat where the dog was kept, hoping that the owner would come out and apologize for the attack. However, the owner did not come out and refused to meet me,” she added.
Singh then filed a complaint with the police, alleging that the dog owner was negligent and that this was the reason for the attack. She also demanded that the owner be fined for not keeping the dog on a leash.
On Tuesday, the LMC also sent a team to investigate the case.
Municipal animal welfare officer Dr Abhinav Verma said that the dog owner has a licence for the specific breed and the dog is properly vaccinated. However, he said that the owner is still responsible for taking care of the dog properly and ensuring that it does not attack anyone.
Verma said, “LMC has given the dog owner a show cause notice as to why he did not take care of the dog and ensure that it did not attack anyone.”
The LMC is also looking into whether there are any rules in place that require dogs to be kept on a leash inside homes.
Anoop Singh, a veterinarian who runs a private clinic in Gomtinagar, said, “Hunting dogs are not always going to react properly and could be fearful or intimidated by certain movements and circumstances. In such conditions, dogs can turn violent and attack their owners and others. So, the owners should closely monitor signs and back off before anything happens.”
