JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — A woman arrested this week is accused of purposely leaving her boyfriend's dog trapped inside a vehicle during extreme heat. The dog did not survive.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has charged Marisa Wheeler with aggravated animal cruelty.
Investigators learned Wheeler had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend, then put his dog inside a car with the windows up and the vehicle turned off during extreme heat. The animal was in the car for approximately seven hours before the pet was found dead by the owner.
Deputies say Wheeler then submerged the animal in a 50-gallon container of water “to try and revive the dog.”
Wheeler was arrested and charged accordingly for “intentionally and knowingly causing the dogs death by extreme heat in the vehicle,” the sheriff's office said.
