Custom Pet Bed

Custom Pet Bed
Pros
  • ProEndlessly customizable with colors, words, and designs
  • ProReal-time rendering tool makes it easy to visualize design
Cons
  • Con3-4 week lead time due to custom nature

If your pup deserves a one-of-the-kind bed (and, let's be honest, they all do!), you need to create one through June St George. Use the site's rendering tool to create the custom dog bed of your dreams with endless colors, materials, and designs to complement your home. Bonus: They're not just pretty, they also withstand digging and muddy paws.

Testers say: “This is the coolest dog bed I've ever bought. I was able to choose colors, fonts, and even a custom message for my dog's bed. It looks great in our bedroom, and my pup absolutely loves it. It's held up to several years of him making his nightly nest (AKA digging until he's 100% comfy).”

Most Stylish Dog Bed

La-Z-Boy Solana Chaise Furniture Dog Sofa

Solana Chaise Furniture Dog Sofa
Pros
  • ProChic styling blends with your decor
  • ProElevated design for easy access
Cons
  • ConNot designed for dogs that weigh more than 40 pounds

If you'd love a dog bed that looks more like a piece of furniture, this stylish chaise is perfect for little dogs. The tufted design with nailhead trim is as fashionable as your own living room furniture. The length allows dogs to sprawl out, but the bolster also provides a feeling of security for your dog to lean against.

Testers say: “My toy dogs love the extra height a chaise bed provides and often stand on it to get a better view of what's going on in the house. They also like to lounge on it.”

Best Dog Bed Travel System

Tavo Pets 3-in-1 Pet Protection System

3-in-1 Pet Protection System

If your dog tends to get anxious when traveling, this ingenious combination bed/ stroller/travel carrier may be the solution. The carrier portion disconnects and the cover comes off so that it can serve as a cozy bed with either a zip-in durable fabric or cozy sherpa interior lining. But the carrier also can be attached to a stroller base or a crash-tested carrier for your vehicle. You'll feel better about traveling, too, because your little darling will be safely ensconced in a cozy space.

Testers say: “My dog was relaxed in the bed/carrier portion at home. He remained calm when this part was attached to the stroller and car seat components, which means a much less stressful travel experience for both of us. Plus, I don't worry about him freaking out in the car because he is in a familiar bed.”

The durable cover fits neatly and stands up to plenty of digging and scratching.

Testers say: “Once unboxed, both my boys headed to investigate and promptly snuggled in. It's quickly become the preferred spot for afternoon naps or when I'm prepping food in the kitchen, and it's become a place where one of them stashes his favorite toys.”

What Should You Look For In A Dog Bed?

icon

There are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a dog bed, says Dr. Bryant:

  • Size. The bed should be larger than the dog and enable your pup to stretch out.
  • Washable. This is essential because accidents happen, and dog beds can get smelly if they cannot be cleaned periodically.
  • Chew-resistant. This is important if your dog is a chewer or a puppy, or even if your dog likes to dig and scratch around before settling down.
  • Water-resistant. This is helpful if your dog isn’t potty-trained or if your pet is incontinent.

Does it matter where you put a dog bed in your house?

icon

Place your dog bed in an area where your dog likes to relax, or in a place where your dog likes to spend time with you in the house. It can be helpful to have multiple beds around the house so your dog always has somewhere comfortable to lie down, says Dr. Bryant.

If you have more than one dog, does each dog need his or her own bed?

icon
Victor Maze

If you have a multiple dog household, it’s not necessary but it is recommended that you have one bed for each dog, says Dr. Bryant. This is because it’s best if each pet has his or her own personal “safe” space.

How We Chose The Best Dog Beds

We based our recommendations on criteria from Taylor Bryant, VMD, primary care veterinarian at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, D.C.; extensive focus on product reviews; and product testing in our homes with our own dogs, when possible.
