Every dog deserves a life rich with love and devotion, but sadly that isn’t always the case. Many animals, especially those with disabilities, are rejected by potential adopters and spend their lives in shelters or in foster care. Fortunately, the sweet pup in this story had a different fate, thanks to kind people who saw her true worth. Greenacres Rescue shared on their Facebook page the story of a beautiful female Cocker Spaniel who was found abandoned in a parking lot and brought into their care.
“She was born with six legs and several other abnormalities,” the rescue posted. Without knowing much about her past, the rescue team decided to take her to the vet for a full examination and to create a plan to give her a chance at a normal life.
They named her Ariel. Mikey Lawlor from Greenacres Rescue explained to in an interview that the name was chosen because someone said she looked like a mermaid. When the test results came back, the team was relieved to learn that Ariel was a healthy and happy dog, and her leg deformities could be fixed with surgery.
“Ariel has two extra back legs… Her pelvis hasn’t formed correctly because of the extra hip joint. The plan is to let her rest after her ordeal and then reevaluate her in a month with the goal of removing the extra limbs and checking the function of her remaining leg,” the shelter shared. After giving her time to rest and recover, Ariel went through many vet visits, scans, and consultations to determine the best way forward.
A few months later, Ariel was ready for surgery, and it was a success. “She’s doing really well, she’s bounced back, and she’s a happy little dog. We’re hopeful she’ll go on to live a wonderful life,” said Aaron Lutchman, the surgeon who operated on her, in an interview with the BBC. Lawlor added that Ariel was up on her feet the very next day, curious about her surroundings. She was placed with caring foster parents who made sure her recovery went smoothly.
In just a few months, Ariel made a full recovery and was ready for the next chapter of her life—finding a forever home. Ariel had become a star, and the shelter received countless adoption applications. One family stood out. They had recently lost their beloved dog and were searching for a new furry friend to fill the empty space in their hearts, and Ariel was the perfect match!
“Ariel is already loved by so many and has been through quite a journey. Raised by a special lady named June, who has done an amazing job caring for her, Ariel is a beautiful, vibrant, and gentle soul who is already bringing so much joy into our lives,” Emma-Mary Webster shared in a Facebook post. Ariel’s story is one that restores your faith in humanity.
So many people came together to help this special dog not only overcome her challenges but also to give her a life filled with love. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped transform this once abandoned pup into a cherished pet,” Greenacres Rescue concluded.
