This Morning's resident vet Scott Miller broke down in tears as he remembered his sadly departed dog Betty on Saturday.

The Aussie, 48, wiped away tears as he revealed being reminded of his beloved pet, who spent 15-years at his side before passing away in 2020, while editing his latest YouTube video.

Taking to Instagram an emotional Scott wept as he explained how his latest case, helping a dog who was also called Betty, hit close to home.

Telling followers: ‘Hope you're having a really lovely Easter. I have just watched the most recent video that we will be posting on Rescue Vet, It's about a dog called Betty who, as you may remember, some of you, from watching Vet On The Hill,'

‘That my dog was called Betty. Sadly I lost her a couple of years ago, and we've kind of touched on that in this latest episode and it's made me cry,'

He continued: ‘So for all of you that are missing a dog in your life that you've loved very much and you've lost then my heart's with you.'

‘I'm sorry if this video makes you cry. You probably will,' he continued. ‘But yeah, just just let me know how you're feeling, and just know that we're in this together.'

Then in a lengthy caption he penned: ‘Losing a beloved animal friend can be very hard. Like any member of the family, the loss can never be truly overcome, instead replaced by gratitude for being given the great privilege of having their love and light in your life'.

‘Betty was my heart dog and I still think of her every day. Some will say she was ‘just a dog’ but for those of us who appreciate the joys of canine companions (or all animals for that matter) know that they will always hold a special place in our hearts'.

Before adding: ‘I hope you’ll all watch and subscribe to RescueVet on YouTube and apologies if Betty’s story (viewable from Wednesday) leaves you in tears as it did me! Big love and Happy Easter, Dr Sx'.

Followers rushed to the comments section to wish Scott well while also sharing memories of their own four-legged friends.

Writing: ‘Never just a dog, unless you have one you'll never understand the joy and unconditional love they bring': ‘Bless you, she is still with you & always will be but it is so very hard letting them go. Sending love xx': ‘No amount of time can ever erase the love and memory of a beloved pet, last year I lose 3 and it never seems to get any easier'.

Last year Scott was compelled to travel to war-torn Ukraine after seeing heartbreaking pictures of abandoned pets after people fled their homes in fear.

He left his wife Zoe, 45, and their four children at home, despite their protestations, and flew to Eastern Europe in a bid to rescue animals who had been hurt as bombs rained down on the country's cities.

Teaming up with charity Breaking The Chains, which is made up of ex-military personnel, Scott is aiming to bring abandoned and sick dogs back to the UK to be rehomed, with some now paraplegic and relying on wheels to move around.

He told The Sun: ‘Everyone said I was absolutely crazy to go to Ukraine, because it is an active war zone, but I just felt compelled.

‘I’ve been an animal lover my whole life. Animals helped me through as a child, struggling socially.

‘They never judged and they are always there to give that unconditional love. Animals are sentient beings. They have emotions, they have feelings, they feel fear.

‘And they’re caught up in this war, and they are also suffering alongside the Ukrainian people.'
