CINCINNATI (WXIX) – About 20 dogs enjoyed a sweet treat at the Three Dog Bakery in Norwood during a pet adoption event on Sunday.
Three Dog Bakery Store Manager Jennah Wright says they held an ice cream social for dogs as well as partner with nonprofit dog rescue, Pawsome Animal Society, to help get the dogs out of high-kill shelters adopted.
“Each dog gets an edible waffle bowl with three scoops of Lickety-Split, which is our version of doggie ice cream; it’s made with whey protein and yogurt powder,” Wright says. “And then they get unlimited toppings, as well as a human ice cream cup.”
The ice cream social is a fundraiser for the Pawsome Animal Welfare Society, a non-profit dog rescue focused on getting dogs out of high-kill shelters and into foster homes before adoption.
“Shelter life is very stressful for dogs, especially some dogs that maybe have a little anxiety. It’s a symptom that you call FAS, so fear, anxiety, and stress,” Pawsome Animal Welfare Society founder Gayla Hawks says. “So the noise is the lack of being able to get out and play in yards and things like that.
”It’s very stressful for these dogs. Plus, one of them gets put on the Euthanasia list. They’re at high-kill shelters. So getting them out and getting them socialized, letting them decompress, letting them just be a dog, and getting some human love. It’s very important to us. It’s our most important mission.”
About 20 dogs were on site to be adopted but the rescue has 50 dogs in their care right now.
