Time remains to enter and vote in Smyth County Humane Society Pet Palooza Photo Contest

The deadline is nearing but there’s still time to show off pet photos and help a worthy cause.

The Smyth County Humane Society is hosting a photo contest to raise much needed funds for its spay/neuter program. The contest is searching for the cutest pet.

To enter the first Pet Palooza Photo Contest is easy. It’s online and the cost to enter is $5. Folks can support their favorite photos at $1 per vote.

All donations are matched. Roger’s Towing is matching dollar-for-dollar all entry fees and votes.

The society’s photo contest goal is to raise $5,000.

The money will be used to help the nonprofit Humane Society to provide low-cost spay/neuter services to the community. In partnership with the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic, the Society facilitates more than 1,000 surgeries each year.

Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Society has helped spay/neuter thousands of dogs and cats, which has reduced the number of homeless animals in the community.

The Society’s mission focuses on improving “the quality of life for companion animals through education, public relations, advocacy for adoption of homeless pets, spay/neuter assistance, and community cat support.”

In addition to Roger’s Towing, a number of sponsors are supporting the Pet Palooza, including Lazy Beagle Pets & Supplies, Better Coffee Co, Meraki Pet Retreat, and Collins House Bed and Breakfast.

The contest runs through March 9.

The three photos garnering the most votes will win prizes along with bragging rights and publication in this newspaper and in the society’s marketing materials.

Visit the Smyth County Humane Society Facebook page or website to enter a pet photo and to vote for favorites or go directly to gogophotocontest.com/smythcountyhumanesociety .
