TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – While they’re filled with dogs, Helping Hands Humane Society also sees an influx of rabbits and hamsters this time of year.
Emi Griess and Sky Meininger from HHHS brought Toffee to Eye on NE Kansas as an example.
Toffee is a 12-week-old male long-haired bunny. Sky says he’s among the many so-called “pocket pets” who find themselves at the shelter.
While these animals are small and cute, Sky said they do require special care, so it’s important to do your homework before adopting.
Emi also updated the situation with dog adoptions. She said they did have several adoptions this week and are no longer over capacity. However, they will continue $0 dog adoptions to ensure they maintain enough space.
If you cannot adopt, you can support HHHS through their Warm Paws Warm Hearts art auction. Emi said the residents at Topeka Correctional Facility created several items that were delivered Friday. Donations of artwork for the auction will be accepted at the shelter through 6 p.m. May 24. Bidding begins May 30.
