TRUMBULL CO., Ohio (WKBN) — There’s a new feature that could help people who find lost dogs licensed in Trumbull County reunite the animals with their owners.
Ohio law requires dog owners to purchase a license for their pet. Now, having the license could benefit lost dogs in Trumbull County.
Trumbull County auditor Martha Yoder says loose dogs are often found when the county’s kennel is closed. That’s where a new online dog license search comes in. People who find a lost dog with a Trumbull County dog license tag can get the animal’s name and where its owner lives by simply searching the license number.
“It can get the dog back where he or she belongs,” Yoder said. “If it’s someplace close and the dog is well-behaved and you feel comfortable being able to return the dog, you can do that.”
Doing so can prevent the dog from having what can be a pretty stressful stay at the pound.
This pound could be a scary place for a dog that is not familiar with this kind of environment for sure,” says James Infante, deputy dog warden.
The hope with this new searchable dog license feature is to reconnect dogs with their owners faster.
“The more quickly we can get those dogs back to where they belong, we’re not going to have overcrowding in the pound. It’s going to solve a lot of issues,” Yoder said.
