SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – There’s a search tonight for whoever dumped a pair of pups in a pizza place dumpster.
Rescue One posted a photo on Facebook with a caption reading, “Repeat after us – pets are not trash.”
Someone found two dogs — one male and one female — Thursday in a dumpster outside an old Pizza Hut at South Grant Ave. and West Catalpa St.
The dogs were covered in fleas, but friendly, and otherwise in pretty good shape.
Someone found the dogs when they were taking their trash out.
A foster volunteer was nearby and brought them to Rescue One.
The dogs were treated for fleas and someone is fostering them for now.
The dogs will see a veterinarian, and be spayed, neutered, and vaccinated.
Michele Rehkop, the adoptions coordinator for Rescue One, said the dogs are in what’s called a stray hold.
“That gives time for if there is an owner to reclaim them,” she said. “They could have been lost. Someone could have found them, stolen. So we don’t know what the situation is for them since they were found in that scenario. There could be a lot of different reasons they were in there, so we don’t know yet exactly.”
Rehkop thinks the dogs may be some kind of pointer mix.
They have to be held for five business days — plus the weekend — before they can be put up for adoption.
Rescue One is asking nearby businesses if they have any video footage of who put the dogs in the dumpster.
If you have any information, you can reach out to them.
