Two dogs reunited with their owners, one roughly 90 miles from home

In a tail-wagging twist of fate, Port St. Lucie Animal Control pulled off a double miracle, reuniting two lost pups with their overjoyed families.

Stella the Husky and Belle the Maltese were both returned to their rightful owners, highlighting the importance of microchipping pets.

Stella's journey was particularly eventful. The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) was reported lost or stolen in Fort Lauderdale on February 6, 2024. Port St. Lucie Animal Control recently found her running loose in the city. The family who had lost her locally said they purchased Stella from someone in Miami.

After an investigation, the rightful owner was located and contacted, thanks to Stella being microchipped. “We are happy to report Stella and Charles [her owners] are reunited,” said the PSLPD.

The department emphasized the significance of microchipping pets, noting that most animal control divisions, rescue organizations, and shelters scan for microchips. They also reminded pet owners to update their contact information when it changes.

Last month, 78% of stray animals captured by animal control were reunited with their owners, underscoring the effectiveness of microchipping in reuniting lost pets with their families.
