TOMAH, Wis.
(WEAU) - Two family dogs are dead and one person is hurt with third-degree burns after a fire in Tomah Friday evening.

Tomah Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 200 block of Green Acres Ave around 6:45 p.m.
after reports of a fire and several explosions coming from a home.
When crews arrived they saw flames coming from the detached garage and were growing quickly with fire extension into the single-family home.

A 54 year-old man was hurt with third-degree burns and was taken to the hospital.
Two family dogs were also taken from the home.
The pets were given life-saving measures until animal shelter staff got on scene and transported them to a vet service in Eau Claire, Wi where they later died.

The single-family home and garage are considered a total loss.

The Tomah Fire Department says they believe the cause of the fire was unintentional and occurred while the owner was working on a moped in the garage.
