UPDATE: The Chattanooga Fire Dept. says all rescues are complete after several people were trapped in rising water in a large homeless encampment.

Ten people were rescued by boat and five people were able to walk out.

14 pets were also rescued and McKamey Animal Center is providing for them. One dog was deceased.

Chattanooga fire says they first received the report of flooding near the encampment just after noon.

The City of Chattanooga's Public Works Dept. will be blocking the area off while water continues to rise to prevent any other incidents.


UPDATE: The Chattanooga Fire Dept. says several people and animals were trapped by rising water in a large homeless encampment.

The Swiftwater Rescue Team has been in the water for hours, searching camps and bringing people and pets to safety on boards.

The Hamilton County EMS, Chattanooga Police Dept., McKamey Animal Center, the Hamilton County Health Department and officials with the city’s Office of Homeless & Supportive Housing are all on scene. 

Local 3's crews are on the scene to bring you the latest. 


PREVIOUS STORY: Crews from the Chattanooga Fire Department, EMS and Chattanooga Public Works are at the scene of a water rescue Thursday afternoon.

A social media post from the Chattanooga Fire Department says that several people and several animals were trapped by rising flood waters near Quinn Adams Street and East 42nd Street at what they describe as a large homeless encampment.

CPD's Special Ops teams are there as well to help with the rescue.
