Paws of War needs urgent assistance to get a cat rescued for airman stationed in the Middle East

NESCONSET, New York – (November 26, 2024) – There are nearly 200,000 troops currently deployed overseas. With less than 1% of the U.S. adult population being active duty service members, it is easy to see the sacrifice they are making for the country. One airman stationed in the Middle East is looking for a Thanksgiving miracle, and needs the help of the community for the mission be successful. On what is her second deployment in 10 years overseas, she has bonded with a kitten she named Walter, who stole her heart, and now can't think of leaving him behind as she heads back to the U.S. Without her care, he won't survive. Her only hope is for Paws of War to carry out the relocation mission successfully.

“Walter has already been attacked and will never survive there without Tracy to protect him and we can't let this heroic airman face the trauma of having to leave Walter behind,” said Robert Misseri, co-founder of Paws of War. “We need to get Walter to New Hampshire, and we will do everything we can to make it happen. Let us show our thanks and appreciation to our heroic military by supporting this rescue wish. We will need people to help support this effort for it to be successful in keeping this family together.”

U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Tracy G. knew that when she went on her second tour in the Middle East, there would be stray animals around. She's always had a soft spot for animals, especially stray dogs and cats in need of love and support. She didn't expect to come across a little kitten who would steal her heart. When she discovered the frail little kitten with the big voice, her heart melted, and the two immediately bonded.

TSgt. Tracy saw that Walter needed help. He was little, would easily get attacked by other animals, and he was weak. Through their bonding, she kept him fed with scraps so that he would grow, and in turn, he kept her feeling comforted by his loud purr and attachment. He became known for running up to her for attention and purring loudly. She fell in love with Walter in no time, and now that it's time for her to head back to New Hampshire, she cannot imagine leaving him behind. Left behind, he would struggle to provide for himself and continue being attacked by other animals. He already has a scar on his little nose, and she fears he will not survive long on his own.

Reaching out to Paws of War for help getting Walter moved to the U.S. is no easy task. The organization has helped many military members in similar situations, but it is always a challenging and costly mission to undertake. They work through a lot of expenses, difficult logistics, regulations, and paperwork to safely and legally get Walter moved to her home in New Hampshire, where he can live out his life in peace, love, and safety.

“I can't believe how quickly I fell in love with this tiny animal. He just stole my heart right away. He was so small and helpless, I knew I had to care for and protect him,” said TSgt. Tracy. “We don't have much time remaining on this deployment to plan and arrange for Walter's rescue. Bringing him home would allow me to give him the life he deserves, away from danger and surrounded by love. His companionship has been invaluable to me and many of the other airmen here, and we want to honor that bond by bringing him into a home where he will be cherished and protected.”
