Chandigarh: The UT police department has taken a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability by issuing a ban on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) water bottles. The ban applies to all the offices, branches and units within the department.
“Employees should use water glasses, stainless-steel bottles and other reusable water bottles during meetings and events of the police department,” stated the police department.
To ensure effective implementation of the initiative, Ketan Bansal, SP (headquarters), issued a circular to all the wings concerned and branches on Friday.
The move aims to reduce the department’s environmental footprint and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly practices among its personnel. By replacing disposable PET bottles with reusable alternatives, the UT police department is setting an example for other organisations to follow in the pursuit of a greener future, said Bansal. Ketan Bansal, SP headquarters, has issued an order prohibiting the use of PET bottles in all offices, branches, units, and during UT police functions. “It is strongly recommended that all employees should use reusable water bottles or office provided alternatives, such as glass or stainless-steel bottles, to stay hydrated,” said the SP.
Bansal also instructed all supervisory officers of the UT police to ensure that water coolers and RO systems installed in their offices, branches, and units were properly maintained to provide safe drinking water for the employees.
In the past, it was a common practice to offer PET water bottles to guests and invitees during police functions and meetings. However, the department has already made the switch to using glass bottles in the police headquarters conference hall.
Previously, the department would provide PET water bottles during press briefings or meetings.
The order has been forwarded to all officers concerned for compliance.
