I had to opportunity to help a neighbor the other day who needed a dog door installed in the back entrance.
Their cute little terrier named Maggie loved to go outside, but they had to make sure the backyard was secure because Maggie also loves to wander and like a hiker without a compass struggles to find her way back home.

But you know what Maggie does not enjoy? Pushing the doggie door open.
So installing the doggie door took about 30 minutes, but designing a way for the door to open for Maggie took the better part of an afternoon.

I kept wondering what would happen if we had left Maggie to her own devices, could she figure it out if she wanted food or some TV time? I didn't get to know because Maggie's owners were determined to create an auto flip for the dog door so she wouldn't be out in the cold or heat.

Utah didn't make the top 10 list of states with the most pampered pets, but we are bordered by the number four position Colorado and California ranks number five on the list so maybe Maggie is a transplant from a neighbor state.

If you are curious Florida pampers their pets the most and Oklahoma the least.

Wow, imagine if Maggie had lived a few states to the east.
She might have had to install her own doggie door and maybe do some hunting to feed the family.

I looked into the eyes of Maggie to see if she knew how good she had it, but she just looked away until I opened the door for her.
