HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Even on a cold, snowy day, Vamptilla Moon leads her owner, MeLinda Webb-Wiseman, out of her apartment in downtown Harrisonburg and to Court Square. It’s part of their routine stroll through town. Most of all, it gets MeLinda out of the house, something she said she wouldn’t do without her dog.
Moon is a pitbull mix rescue who spends her time keeping MeLinda safe. She helps her with her mental health, medication and remains on standby in case of a fall.
“She can diagnose when I have a PTSD incident or if I’m having an anxiety attack so that I know to go home and take my meds,” MeLinda said. “She stays with me if I fall until I can get help. She is my lifeline.”
To celebrate her best friend, MeLinda nominated Moon in the America’s Favorite Pet contest. She said her entry is for more than attention — it’s to spotlight how important Moon and so many other support dogs are in their owner’s daily life.
