Dogs communicate with us in a variety of ways, from wagging their tails to flashing a “smile” with a vet revealing what it all means.
Vet Dr. Julian Norton has given a fascinating insight into our pooches' minds. He explains why dogs are prone to nudging and nuzzling with their noses.
Dr. Norton said: “People sometimes ask why dogs nudge and nuzzle with their noses.”
According to Dr. Norton, dogs are affectionate because they feel like a part of the the family and they're trying to get attention, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

This canine behavior isn't without its reasons. It's a dog's way of forging a sentimental connection with their owners.
Dr. Norton said: “It's quite endearing.”
Norton added: “I think it's a bit like when dogs come and lick us on our face or hands or that sort of thing. They're just really wanting to be part of the family and get some attention.”
Licking is more than a habit for our four-legged friends—it often symbolizes bonding or an emotional check-in, according to the vet.
When your faithful friend licks your hand or showers your face with kisses, they might be trying to understand how you feel, effectively signaling “I care.”
However, licking is only one part of the ways that dogs communicate and bond with us.
Tail wagging is often misunderstood, as reported by the Express. While many assume that a wagging tail means a dog is in high spirits, the reality is indeed more complex.
The way a dog wags its tail can convey a variety of emotions, from happiness to anxiety, depending on the speed, height, and rigidity of the wag.
A loose, high wag often indicates excitement, while a slow, low wag can signify anxiety or apprehension.
Notably, dogs may also flash a “smile” when they're feeling playful or at ease, where they curl up the corners of their mouth in a way that mimics a human smile.
When accompanied by a relaxed demeanor and a wagging tail, this facial expression is a clear indication that your dog is feeling elated and unconcerned.
By being attentive to these subtle signals, including licks, wags, and grins, you can foster a stronger connection with your dog, resulting in a deeper bond and a happier, more self-assured pet.
