Veterinarian explains dangers of Valentine’s Day gifts to pets

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Valentine’s Day is often a day where you give the person you love flowers, but sometimes those can be more dangerous than you would think for your pets.

As Valentine’s Day comes to an end, we spoke with a veterinarian who says lilies can be harmful to cats because they can cause kidney failure.

They also say candy can be harmful, too.

“Make sure your dog is not eating all your chocolate or if the dog did eat a whole flower arrangement that could cause a pretty bad upset tummy. Those are the biggest things we see,” said Summer Covar.

She adds if you do think your animal got into something they should not have, you should call your veterinarian and get them checked out.
