A team of veterinary nurses at Paragon Veterinary Group will start the initiative by attending the annual charity walk at Watchtree Nature Reserve near Carlisle, which takes place on April 30 at 6.30pm.
Prospective participants need to register for the Watchtree community walk to take part.
There is a one-mile trail and a three-mile trail, both suitable for everyone including families with buggies and wheelchairs.
There, the Paragon team will provide advice on weight management, do a body condition score of your pet, give dietary advice, do dental checks, share exercise advice for your dog, and help with information about the “carbon pawprint” and how to reduce your pet’s impact on the environment.
Karen Macdonald, Paragon’s head vet nurse, said: “We are really excited to get out and about, meeting local animal lovers and sharing our knowledge.
“Pet owners, and anyone thinking of getting a pet, can stop and chat with us and ask questions.
“Many common health problems, including some which are serious, arise from weight and dental issues.
“My important message for pet owners is that with the right guidance these health issues can be minimised or avoided entirely, keeping your pet happy and healthy, helping them to live a longer life, and helping you to avoid some expensive vet bills.”
At Watchtree the Paragon team will be based in their gazebo and will offer the free advice to visitors on the night.
There will also be information leaflets and free poo bags.
Ms Macdonald said: “We plan to visit Watchtree again in the future so keep a look out for us.”
Paragon Veterinary Group has centres in Dalston, Wetheral, Newbiggin near Penrith and Shap, with Small Animal, Equine, Farm and Advanced Breeding divisions.
