Ably assisted by several four-legged friends, the Lord Mayor of York officially opened York’s newest shop today (Friday).
Cllr Margaret Wells cut the ribbon, and retired border force detector dog Pablo chewed through a string of sausages – and the Jollyes pet shop at Monks Cross was declared open.
It has taken over the unit vacated by Tui travel earlier this year.

Lots of dogs and their owners gathered at the store for the official opening, before touring the shop.
Jollyes sells a cornucopia of things your animal friends. Deputy manager Aquilla Fisher told YorkMix: “We have everything for dogs, in terms of natural treats, toys, beds, food, everything that you could possibly need for a dog.
“We’ve got lots of things for cats, small animals, birds and reptiles as well. We’ve got stuff for your wild birds, your indoor birds, something for everybody.”
She said the firm had wanted to open in York for a while. They have eight staff but that team will soon grow: “We are due in the next couple of months to open a vet clinic – so we’ll be having staff for that as well.
“There will be an in store vet to do vaccinations, microchips, that kind of thing.”
YorkMix‘s Victoria Charles broadcast live from the Jollyes opening, with the help of Mixie Monster.
