An American XL Bully will be destroyed after it attacked its owner as he was having sex.

Scott Thurston, 32, was bitten by the two-year-old dog Hank at his home in Wales, on August 2.

His partner Leanne Bell called police to the house in Jones Terrace, Glanaman, Carmarthenshire, in the early hours of this morning.

Llanelli Magistrates’ Court yesterday ordered the dog be destroyed after 28 days pending appeals, the BBC reported.

The order was granted due to ‘significant safeguarding concerns’ over the dog with four young children in the household.

Bodycam footage from the incident showed police arriving at the property and Mr Thurston attempting to muzzle the dog in the garden.

Ms Bell was heard saying to the two officers: ‘I’ve got four kids, I love the dog, but I can’t have him around my kids.’

The dog had attacked and bit Mr Thurston when they began having sex, leaving him with bites to his left forearm and chin. He declined to go to hospital.

The pet was later shut in a downstairs room, but police seized the dog on August 19.

It was then housed in kennels at Dyfed-Powys Police headquarters.

Frederick Lewendon, representing the police, said there was ‘a real potential for the incident to be far worse’.

He warned although Mr Thurston’s injuries were not serious, the ‘next time it might not be a small bite to him, it might be to one of the children’.

Ian Birch, representing Mr Thurston, claimed with ‘proper contingencies’ the dog could go home as there had been ‘no previous incidents’.

But magistrates believed it ‘could not be safely returned’ and ordered the dog’s destruction, as well as making an order for £800 in court costs.

Mr Thurston and Ms Bell declined to comment after the case.

The government recently announced the XL Bully breed will be banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act as of December 31 this year.

The breed has gained significant attention this year following a number of attacks on both people and other animals.
