“Hike With A Homeless Pet” and No Kill Shelter, Grand Companions have been partnering with the Sibley Nature Center to get the community out to hike with pets.

MIDLAND, Texas — The weather was great to walk dogs Thursday, as the Sibley Nature Center hosted “Hike With A Homeless Pet”.

The nonprofit and No Kill Shelter, Grand Companions told NewsWest 9 that they've been partnering with the Sibley Nature Center to get the community out to hike with homeless pets.

The dogs people walk with are strays they picked up from the Trans-Pecos Region.

Not only do you get exercise and get the dogs outside, but you also get to meet potential adopters.

“We've had a couple of good luck with getting pets adopted from this specific event as well as getting their energy ran out,” said Suzanna Kofoed, Grand Companions adoption coordinator.

On Thursday, some drone students who just so happened to be doing some work at the Sibley Nature Center for school had found themselves getting even more exercise with their new furry friends.

“Basically, it was an accident kind of. We were here for drone pictures, and they were like do you wanna walk these dogs. None of our volunteers showed up which is kind of sad, we were supposed to leave 30 minutes ago,” three drone students said. “Now we're walking dogs. A happy accident!”

If interested in getting involved with “Hike With A Homeless Pet”, they happen on the first Thursday of every month at the Sibley Nature Center from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
