CADILLAC, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — Veterinarians are alerting pet owners to a surge in Lyme disease cases among dogs as warm weather returns, bringing ticks with it.
Meyer Veterinary Clinic in Cadillac reported 81 positive cases of Lyme disease in dogs over the past five months, with April seeing the highest number of cases.
The clinic emphasized that Lyme disease extends beyond a simple tick bite and can result in severe health issues, including joint pain, kidney damage, and long-term illness.
Staff at the clinic recommend protecting pets by using flea and tick preventatives, such as Bravecto or Nexguard.
