Attention, dog lovers in Alabama! We’ve got some important news that could impact your furry friends. Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. is recalling 400 bags of Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips treats for dogs due to a potential Salmonella contamination. If you've purchased these treats recently, it’s time to double-check your pantry.

Why the Recall?

These 16-ounce bags of chicken chips, marked with the lot number 20051324L2 and an expiration date of 11/13/25, could potentially be contaminated with Salmonella. While your dog might not always show obvious signs of illness, Salmonella can affect both pets and humans, and that’s why this recall is especially important.

What Should You Look For?

If you have any bags of the recalled Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips on hand, stop feeding them to your dog immediately. Look for the following:

  • 16-ounce purple-and-black bag
  • Lot number: 20051324L2
  • Expiration date: 11/13/25

These bags were sold in Hollywood Feed stores across multiple states, including Alabama, and also through the online retailer hollywoodfeed.com.

What’s the Risk to Your Dog (and You)?

Salmonella isn’t just a concern for your pup—humans can also be affected. Here’s what to watch for:

In dogs, symptoms of Salmonella infection may include:

  • Diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Lethargy
  • Decreased appetite and abdominal pain

Even if your dog isn’t showing signs of illness, they could still be carrying the bacteria and could pass it on to you or other pets in the household.

In humans, Salmonella can cause:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), and abdominal cramping
  • Fever
  • In more serious cases, it can lead to infections in the blood, joints, or urinary tract

If either you or your pet shows any signs of illness after handling or eating these treats, contact your healthcare provider or veterinarian right away.

What Should You Do?

If you have one of the affected bags of treats:

  1. Stop feeding it to your dog immediately.
  2. Dispose of the treats or return them for a refund or replacement. You can contact Carolina Prime Pet at treats@carolinaprimepet.com or 828-394-6460 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM EST) for instructions on returning the product.

What’s Being Done?

The recall was issued after a third-party lab found contamination in a related batch of treats that had not yet been released for sale. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported so far, but it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your pet’s health—and your own!

Let’s keep our pets safe and healthy, Alabama! If you have any concerns or symptoms, don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet or healthcare provider. Stay safe and share this news with fellow pet owners!
