‘We need your help today!’: Blythe Animal Shelter’s dog adoptions free through March 8 | Blythe News

The local Blythe Animal Shelter is offering folks free dog adoptions through March 8 as part of an effort to place 150-plus.

“WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY! Amazing things happen when our community comes together; right now, you can be part of something truly lifesaving,” stated the Blythe Animal Shelter’s social media page on Feb. 26. “Between now and March 8th, we need to place an extra 150 plus dogs in adoptive or foster homes to free up kennel space and save dogs in our shelter system. The more second chances there are, the happier the tails will be and the more lives will be saved!”

As further noted by Riverside County, the Department of Animal Services (DAS) is hosting the free adoptions at all four shelter locations countywide through March 8.

“All shelters are over capacity with the number of dogs in kennels, and the goal is to work with the public to find homes for over 150 deserving dogs. Potential adopters can visit any of the four shelter locations to walk through the kennels and find their perfect match,” stated Riverside County on Feb. 26. “For those who would like to help but cannot adopt a pet full-time, they can sign up to foster at www.rcdas.org. The pets most in need of foster care are larger dogs, those with medical needs, and those with behavioral challenges. Another way to help is by getting healthy, friendly strays back home by reporting them to www.petcolovelost.org so they can be matched with any corresponding lost reports. Eighty percent of lost pets are found less than a mile from their home.”

The Blythe Animal Shelter is located at 245 North Carlton Avenue, with hours listed as Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

“With 949 total dogs in our care, it is urgent that we find homes for adoptions and foster,” stated Riverside County Animal Services Interim Director Dr. Kimberly Youngberg. “As we move into Spring, we are seeing more pets entering the shelter than we have resources to save and that’s why we are asking for our communities help.”

New shelter intakes and additional information for the Blythe Animal Shelter may be found on social media at:

“Hundreds of amazing dogs are waiting to meet you. Whether you want a weekend adventure buddy, a snuggly best friend, or a short-term houseguest, this is your chance to make a difference!” stated the Blythe Animal Shelter. “Let's make miracles happen this weekend. Stop by any RivCo shelter today and be a hero for a pet in need!”
