WEIRTON, W.Va. — The 6th Annual Weirton Elementary School Color Run is set to take place this Friday, with a special dedication to the school's beloved therapy dog, Clara.
Registration for the event begins at 5 p.m., and the run will start at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public, with racer packets available for purchase on race day for $5. Children aged 5 and under can participate for free.
All proceeds from the event will go towards covering Clara's recertification, pet insurance, and handler costs, ensuring she continues to bring comfort and joy to the students of Weirton Elementary.
“Clara has been such joy to have in school. It’s definitely made a difference and it’s nice to see when kids are having difficulties how Clara helps them and the kids are getting to the point right now where if they are having a hard time they know to ask for her and to see how she helps. It’s just wonderful,” said Angela Myers, the race coordinator.
The color zones at the event will feature volunteers who will throw non-toxic powder for each lap participants complete. Participants can bypass the color zones if needed.
For additional information, call Myers at (304) 748-8370.
