‘We’ve exhausted all avenues for Brownie’: S’pore non-profit’s last-ditch appeal to rehome abandoned dog – Mothership.SG

In an impassioned plea for help via a Facebook post on Nov. 26, local non-profit Exclusively Mongrels (EM) shared what would be senior dog Brownie's last appeal.

Estimated to be around 12 years old, Brownie was abandoned by a family after they moved out of their residence in February earlier this year.

“We've tried very hard in the past nine months to help Brownie. […] We were so optimistic at the thought of bringing this boy joy and happiness, but we were so wrong,” shared EM, adding that they have covered his medical bills, transport and food since taking him in.

“Despite our last urgent appeal, still no suitable fosterer [has come] forth to help him.”

“We've exhausted all avenues for Brownie,” EM said.

“Will move to a factory this weekend”

Speaking to Mothership, EM shared that Brownie will headed to a factory in Sungei Kadut if he is unable to be rehomed.

Thus far, he has passed through the hands of three fosterers.

The organisation, which does not run a shelter, relies on fosterers and permanent adopters to care for the animals.

“When we run out of foster homes, but require urgent space, the dog will go to a factory as a temporary measure while we continue to find fosterers,” explained the animal welfare organisation. 

“Craves human attention”

As Brownie is a senior dog, Brownie has some continence issues.

While it proved to be a “big challenge” for fosterers living in flats and condominiums, this issue is “somewhat resolved” if he has multiple walks a day.

“He craves human attention, loves his walks and prefers to be the only dog,” said EM.

Brownie's not the only dog in need of a home, and EM currently has over 10 dogs at various foster homes as of present.

However, the “underwhelming response” to rehoming cases have caused the organisation to put a pause on taking in adult dogs, until some of the “outstanding cases” have been rehomed.

Potential adopters need to be ready to commit to pet ownership, and will be screened.
