How to Obtain the Royal Hound
Pets in Final Fantasy XIV are no doubt an appealing factor to anyone player’s arsenal. While you can dress yourself in the seemingly infinite number of clothing options, or ride around in style with one of the many mounts, having a minion follow you around has always been something players adored. Whether it’s something cutesy, something grotesque or something you just like looking at, minions mostly play the role of having a pet to follow you around.

What is the Royal Hound Minion?
The Royal Hound minion is a pet creature that can be summoned and follow you around. There are other means of using the pet, such as participating in the Lord of Vermillion mini-game in the Gold Saucer, but for the most part, the vast majority of players get their minions and use them simply to have a pet follow them around everywhere they go.
The Royal Hound is no different as it’s a trusty canine. This is a multicolored dog that is said to be “descended from hounds that were once bred by the royal family of Alexandria for hunting foxes and deer.” As you might expect, it comes with a little bit of lore that is tied directly into the main story of the expansion, but more than anything, it’s just an adorable dog that is said to be loyal companion that is looking for a “worthy master to serve.”
How to Obtain the Royal Hound
Like many minions in Final Fantasy XIV, most of them are earned by luck of the draw, and the Royal Hound is no different. While some Minions can be bought from the FFXIV store while others are obtained through Alliance Society tokens, the Royal Hound can be found through a random drop in a chest at the end of the normal dungeon.
As you might imagine, because this is tied to Dawntrail's patch 7.2, the Royal Hound is the new dungeon’s, The Underkeep, special reward. The Royal Hound can be found in the final chest of the dungeon, but at a small chance. Most of the time, it will simply be an ilevel 725 chestpiece for a random class group, but there is a chance that this little hound could show up.
If you’re so lucky that it has appeared, you unfortunately will also have to fight three other players for it. You will need to roll Need or Greed (the former taking priority), with the highest upward roll of 99 taking it home.
With that said, bearing a couple of exceptions, almost all dungeon minions are tradeable, meaning that even if you don’t win the roll, you are still able to purchase it off the marketboard, or through trading with a friend. At the current time, because this is a fairly new minion, its price isn’t exactly cheap, but if you’re a dog lover, it’s more than worth the price.
