What is the best dog hair vacuum cleaner? My old one is kaput.

We purchased, some time ago, the Dyson upright (such as the Ball Animal Origin Upright, £249.99, currys.co.uk) — it’s a tad heavy for a vacuum cleaner but it does what it says on the tin: three brush sweeper settings, and if you use the lowest setting make sure the carpet is fastened down, as it might lift it along with all the dog hairs!

What is the best way to remove fly dirt (poo) from my lovely white window frames? I can get the main spot off but it leaves a pale stain.

My windows installer told me about this marvellous stuff that removes marks from white uPVC window frames and sills: Silversil (£8.95, amazon.co.uk). Apply it with a white soft cloth (old T-shirts are good for this job). Rub until the mark has disappeared and polish with the dry cloth.
