Wild Deer with Bizarre ‘Interest’ in House Cat Shocks Pet’s Owner

The animal kingdom is full of unlikely friendships.

Eric Kiehn recently noticed wild deer in his Ellensburg, Washington neighborhood approaching his pet cat Pebbles with increasing curiosity.

In late March, the pet owner decided to film one of the unusual interactions he witnessed between his feline and the local deer.

In the clip, Pebbles sits in an outdoor planter made out of a barrel surrounded by two deer. None of the animals seem wary of each other. Instead, one of the deer leans toward the cat and starts licking the pet around his neck and cheek.

The cat appears pleased during the grooming session, taking the licks with closed eyes and a content expression.

“I happened to notice a deer showing interest in our cat, Pebbles,” Kiehn told Storyful about the moment he captured on camera. “As I watched the interaction, the deer started giving Pebbles a bath!”

The pet parent agrees that the cat likely enjoyed the deer bath, especially since Pebbles made no attempt to move away from the wild animal.

“He had the opportunity to move but chose the deer life instead!” Keihn added.

The deer bath lasts several seconds in the clip. A second deer appears in the video, but the animal opts to watch the interspecies grooming session instead of joining in.

According to Kiehn, Pebbles and the local deer appear to have an agreement because the cat now gets regular visits from his deer stylist.

Pebbles' owner added to Storyful that the feline receives deer baths “a few times a week now.”

Many pets always want to make new friends, regardless of the species. This is true of Frank, the golden retriever. According to his owner, Steve Agati, Frank “loves people” and is especially smitten with mail carriers.

On March 12, Agati shared a video of Frank eagerly greeting a FedEx delivery person, captioned “Why golden retrievers can't be guard dogs.”

In the clip, Frank eagerly follows the delivery person to the front door, wagging his tail the whole time, and then poses for the driver's proof of delivery photo. The viral video of Frank's friendliness has over 16 million views on TikTok.
