SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. (WITN) – Scotland Neck police say the alpha dog of a pack of dogs that have been terrorizing neighborhoods has been captured.
Scotland Neck Police Chief Tommy Parker says, “The situation began with dogs rummaging through trash and wrecking abandoned houses. Eventually, the dogs started staying in town more and it became clear they were chasing after pets, leading to multiple attacks on them. In the past few months, we noticed that one particular dog joined the pack and he was becoming very aggressive. The pack’s leader, a male Pit, started showing aggression towards people passing by. We first noticed some of the dogs about two years ago, and we believe the pack consisted of about 6-7 dogs initially.”
Parker goes on to say there have been multiple incidents where pets have been injured or killed due to these dogs. While there hadn’t been any major reported attacks on humans, they felt it was time to bring in additional help and collaborated with Halifax County Animal Control for months to track the wild dogs and find humane ways to manage their impact on the community.”
The chief says that the alpha male and another dog from the pack were captured today. Two other dogs were captured about a month ago. The goal is to remove the last few dogs in the pack in the next few days.
