Williams Lake shoppers are being given a helping hand in keeping their pets safe as some businesses support bringing pets into the store.
The BC SPCA is also reminding the public, breaking a vehicle window to remove an animal is illegal and can result in injury to the person and the animal.
Only police and BC SPCA animal protection officers have the authority to enter a vehicle to help an animal.
Instead of breaking the window, BC SPCA asks the public to take note of the license plate, vehicle colour, make and model and ask local businesses to page the owner to return to their vehicle. If the animal is exhibiting exaggerated panting, or not panting at all on a hot day, is salivating, or shows an anxious or staring expression, muscle tremors or lack of coordination, convulsions, vomiting, or collapse, call police or the BC SPCA Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722.
Callers should also be prepared with location information including city and detailed landmarks.
A list posted by a downtown Williams Lake business owner shared out a list of local businesses welcoming well-behaved, leashed pets into the store.
