2<\/span><\/p><\/div> Some owners have started using leads as they fear their cats will get injured or could hurt other animals if they are allowed to roam free.<\/p> The charity spoke out as figures show demand for cat leashes is soaring, with 6,000 searches per month for leads \u2014 including kitten harnesses.<\/p> Pet insurers Waggel, which conducted the research, said: \u201cThere is a growing divide among cat owners on whether to keep cats indoors or allow them to roam.<\/p> \"An increasing number now keep cats indoors to protect them from road traffic, diseases and other animals.<\/p> \u201cThis trend is also driven by concerns about the impacts of domestic cats on local wildlife.\u201d<\/p> CEO Andrew Leal added: \u201cCats like to have control \u2014 a collar can take that<\/span> away.\u201d<\/p> The RSPCA said: \u201cSome cats may be frightened by the experience of being on a lead.<\/p> \u201cIt may be more difficult for them to be able to move away or hide from stressful situations \u2014 like being approached by a dog off the lead.<\/p> \u201cWe understand social media has helped fuel the trend, but it\u2019s important to consider whether this is the right thing for your own cat.\u201d<\/p>
