JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Jefferson County say a Brookville woman is facing charges after she reportedly admitted to abandoning multiple pets inside a home over the summer.
Police say Courtney Wolff is accused of leaving two cats, two kittens and a dog inside the basement of a Brookville Borough residence, in July, for over a week.
According to the affidavit, police say they received multiple complaints from neighbors of the East Main Street residence that a dog and two kittens were believed to have been left inside.
Investigators say officers discovered five pets inside the home, which was reportedly littered with feces.
Police noted that the animals had no access to food or water.
Authorities say that when they questioned the property owner, identified as Wolff, she “took responsibility” for abandoning the animals but claimed that she was unaware that one of the cats was pregnant.
Investigators say they were informed by an individual who was attempting to foster the animals that the two kittens later died.
According to online court records, Wolff is facing a dozen charges, including multiple counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and animal neglect.
She was released on unsecured bail following her arraignment.
