Woman attacked by dog on beach in Brevard County
SOMEONE ENJOYING THEIR DAY ON A POPULAR BREVARD COUNTY BEACH ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL AFTER THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS A PIT BULL ATTACKED. WE’RE TOLD THE OWNER HAS SINCE BEEN CITED BECAUSE THE DOG WAS NOT ON A LEASH. BEACHGOERS WE TALKED WITH CALLED THE ATTACK ALARMING. IT HAPPENED HERE ON THE SAND OFF HARBOR DRIVE IN CAPE CANAVERAL LAST WEEK. ACCORDING TO THE BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, A 100 POUND PIT BULL WITHOUT A LEASH ATTACKED A BEACHGOER. A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE SHERIFF SAYS THE WOMAN NEEDED SURGERY FOR SEVERAL WOUNDS AND CUTS. VISITORS TO THE BEACH ARE NOW ON EDGE OVER THE NEWS. NO DOG SHOULD BE RUNNING BY ITSELF ON THE BEACH. HAVE A LEASH, BE A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER SO YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR ANIMAL. THAT’S A LITTLE FRIGHTENING. SIGNS ARE POSTED ON THIS STRETCH OF BEACH. NO DOGS ALLOWED OUTSIDE OF DOG PARKS AND YARDS. BREVARD COUNTY SAYS DOGS MUST BE ON LEASHES AND HAVE ALL THE REQUIRED VACCINATIONS. THE PIT BULL IS NOW IN A TEN DAY QUARANTINE. THE OWNER. THE SHERIFF SAYS, WAS GIVEN A CITATION AFTER THE ATTACK. TIM DEVASTO SPENT HIS TUESDAY HERE WITH HIS SMALL CHILDREN. HE SAYS HE’S ALWAYS MINDFUL ABOUT PROTECTING OTHERS. WELL, YOU KNOW, OUR DOG DEFINITELY BARKS A LOT AND IS A LITTLE NIPPY, SO WE MAKE SURE IT’S ALWAYS ON A LEASH, MAKE SURE HE’S IN THE YARD AND YOU KNOW, IF THERE’S ANOTHER DOG AROUND, WE MAKE SURE THAT WE KEEP CLEAR.
