HENRY Co., Ohio (WTVG) – The owner and operator of a dog fostering and rescue organization in Napoleon faced a judge this week.
Alexandria Rigg is facing five counts of Cruelty to Companion Animal after authorities seized 28 animals from the Napoleon residence. Riggs runs the organization called Zesty Misfits.
According to court records, Rigg was in court this week where a judge issued an order that she couldn’t have animals through the duration of the case. She was released on her own recognizance.
Deputies along with the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Henry County Dog Warden conducted a search warrant at the residence on Dec. 10.
During an initial investigation in October, authorities found several dogs inside and in what they called unsanitary conditions. Law enforcement told the organization that it had issues and told them the issues needed to be corrected.
A follow-up investigation found that the conditions had only gotten worse.
The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant on Dec. 10. Deputy Ross Saneholtz described the living conditions as “shocking.”
“When there are 24 dogs inside a house that are not being cleaned up after, the urine and fecal matter add up really quick,” Deputy Saneholtz said.
He added that the smell of the urine was burning the eyes and nose of the officers investigating. He also said some animals were in cages, others running loose around the home.
Deputies and agents seized 24 dogs, two cats and two lizards from the home. Saneholtz said that several animals were in poor health and were evaluated by a veterinarian.
The dog warden is now caring for the animals.
